... May I...?
Shen: Only the sketch was done in class. The painting was done afterwards; on top of the original sketch. If you are interested, I can upload the original sketch from class.
Another confession: the roses in the background are done with a paint tool in Photoshop. They are not painted on. The character in the painting has a love for blue roses, therefore, they were later added in the painted version.
HM: Thank you for your over-indulgent comments. Heart-felt thanks.
Genevieve: Thanks again for your lesson! The new picture looked pretty slick. It might look better if the picture was "smaller" (i.e. with a >100% representation), that way, many of the imperfections that are usually unavoidable when colouring with pencil crayons will diminish in size, and perhaps, disappear.
When I have the time, I'll put up a few more "class sketches"...

... May I...? In snowed a little in Toronto yesterday. I've always liked the snow, it holds a continuing fascination for someone who came from a place that does not snow. While sitting in a seminar, I doodled this one. (I later had to ink over it. Without the ink, I don't think anything would be visible.) No colours this time... just simply don't have the time for it lately... I think I'd like to call it "Belated Christmas"...

Wow I love the details in your first "digital painting", Velata, welcome to the tablet era ... I doodled this one in engineering economics . Only halfway through photoshopping it though

Greetings:
Class time is the best time to catch up on sleep, classroom gossip, and art. No one can go wrong by doing one of the above. I for one frequently partake in the first of the mentioned activities.
Kudos for the sketches.
Late winter sketch by Velata looks good... makes me wish that we would have more snow right now. Liz's Morning girl looks nice too. I must agree with the bear.
But, if Genna can eat everything else but the bear... wouldn't that make her a cannibal?
We can try to pool more of our "class room projects" together and collect them on to a printed page so we can show them off at AN 2006. How about that eh?
For the Riptide Project, Advent Childhe,

"Plaything" was an idea I came up with a few months ago but never finished. I need to redo it, as the guy's hand is disproportionately small compared to the girl's chest. I was having a lot of trouble with this one, actually, because I wasn't sure how to handle the hand. It's supposed to be bent back at the wrist and cupping the heart in its palm. I think it just looks misshapen here. Could anyone give me some suggestions on how I could make it look less misshapen and more like it is indeed bent back at the wrist? Any tips would be most welcome! Also, I'm wondering how evident the simultaneous groping of the breast and crushing of the heart is. Can you tell that they're both happening or do I completely miss the boat on that aspect? Please help!

ok I love how you actually think more on a conceptual level b4 just jumping in and drawing. here are a few suggestions look at your own hand doing the coupling motion: you shouldn't be about to see so much of the joint closest to the palm from that angle. That's the main thing I believe. Also - your palm probably has more volume than depicted in your pic - unless I'm misunderstanding the angle.... and so you may want to consider filling that out underneath your fingers there.

Thanks so much for the suggestions! I was really at my wit's end trying to figure out what I was doing wrong! I'll definitely try those tactics when I redraw it. Thanks again!

... May I...? On top of the hand, there is another problem with the picture, speaking from a strickly anatomical point of view: The heart lies too laterally in the chest wall in this picture. I've attached a picture with a few thoracic landmarks. Hope this helps. The red is where the heart is, the brown is where the chest (pectoral muscles) will be, and the whites are where the bones are.

... May I...?
Lillian and Cain... an interesting suggestion is placed in front of us here. Is this something that we should look forward to in Eternal Night?
One thing that I am looking forward to, however... is to see this one coloured. HM, are you up to it?
