Hi everyone! so Sidney Smith is booked for February 13th and 14th all day (8am to 5pm) So keep those days free! April is doing some preparations and will be arranging a meeting over the products we plan on selling. Sounds pretty interesting so far. Let's hope it goes as well as our halloween fundraiser.

... May I...?
Will the rest of the CP group be asked upon to contribute to the items that we will be selling? Or are we just expected to show up and take care of the table?
The idea of walking vendors is also great: The only obstacle is looking for members who will be bold enough to hail down perfect strangers and try to sell them Valentine-related items. We'll need some really bold volunteers.
Good luck planning, we will be waiting to hear it at the meeting.

Hey everyone, well I was hoping we can have the general meeting around wednesday? If that's okay for everyone? It will be next wednesday so around Jan. 25 And yes, the members may be asked to contribute this time also, but since this time it isn't last min. there will be plenty of time for set-ups and stuff ^^
thanks~~

... May I...?
1. When will the meeting be, if it is set on Wednesday the 25th?
2. Since the forum seems a little less than lively recently, is it a good idea to send out notices through the mailing list that we have?
3. Should we advertise this Valentine's bake sale on the website proper?

Hey-hey! Thought the fundraiser thread could do with a revival, as summer's now here and it's car wash season. I'm sure it'll be included in the minutes from today's meeting, but since it seems appropriate I'll mention here, too, that we're going to try to aim for 3 or 4 car washes this summer (which I gather is roughly what we had last summer, too). In terms of fundraising and promotion during the school year, though, I also wanted to suggest something. I was thinking that this year we should try to do more promotional events in the SF atrium, not necessarily for fundraising purposes but more for spreading the word. It's been suggested that we're in a bit of a bind for new submissions and that we need to recruit more people. I'd like to suggest that making ourselves more visible in person could really help our cause in that respect, especially if we're more visible to our target recruitment audience: U of T students. Even, if I may be so specific, U of T engineering students, as this magazine is theoretically still an engineering art magazine with significant funding coming from the U of T Engineering Society. To that end, the idea I'd like to propose is that we try to book a table in the SF atrium pit once a month -- even just for a lunch hour or something -- where we can distribute CP, talk to students and possibly get in some minor fundraising while we're at it. I think this is a good idea because: 1) It being just a lunch hour or afternoon/morning (whatever small time span someone is available to man the table, really) once a month, it shouldn't be too hard to find someone(s) available for this short time to chat and distribute the mag. There are ALWAYS people in the atrium, no matter the hour. 2) Pit space in the SF atrium is free; we just need to book ahead with the administration so that we don't conflict with other events there. They even have tables available for a deposit fee that we get back when we return the table. 3) Having this promotional gimmick on a monthly basis will also allow for some minor fundraising to take place each month. I'm not suggesting anything big, maybe some brownies or cookies or whatever. The main purpose wouldn't be fundraising, but promoting the mag. Another thing I'd like to suggest for ALL of our fundraisers is perhaps investing funds into a large CP banner of some sort. Or even home-making one ourselves out of fabric and/or other media. I think something that's recognisable as us at a distance would really help. Bertha's posters are lovely, I hear, but they're not nearly big enough to put on display like that. We should have something that we could fling over the side of a table, perhaps, or suspend above the table/booth/whatever. Finally, I was chatting with Amit on MSN tonight and one of his suggestions was to look into holding a cookie dough fundraiser. I don't know about any of you guys, but we did these when I was in high school and they were very successful: www.fundraisingknowhow.com/fundraiser-reviews/cookie-dough-fundraisers.aspx Just think of all those homesick university kids craving some fresh-baked cookies straight from the oven... ;D

I was talking to Suz and we thought about selling CP T-shirts. You can get them for less than a buck each in chinatown and they could have the logo (discussed in the other thread) or maybe simple characters we can doodle on them.

car wash season has been cancelled.... I called the gas stations and they said something about the municipality cancelling all the car washes. Not very clear as to what the law was. Anywaz...now we have to think of new ways to raise money this summer! New ideas anyone? ? Summer's almost over...so better think quick! *still surprised* ~Suz~

I guess...specifically car washes that are not held in controlled environments, such as outside hand washes, those would not be able to separate the water/oil/other substances properly into the sewer systems etc....I'm really not sure...but check this out: www.toronto.ca/water/protecting_quality/pollution_prevention/pdf/car_wash.pdfAutomotive Service Stations, Vehicle Washes and Petroleum Facilities Best Management Practices Best Management Practices documents are intended to assist operators of vehicle wash operations (PDF), petroleum facilities (PDF) and automotive repair operations (PDF) to minimize the effects of their operations on the quantity and quality of wastewater and contaminant discharges to sewers. For more information please call 416-394-8455. www.toronto.ca/water/protecting_quality/pollution_prevention/ppps_forms.htm*you could try calling them again if you want, maybe I didn't ask properly....hehe

how many stations did you ask? that document appears to be for car wash operations/businesses/facilities... (i agree w/ eirras) and so there are tighter regulations on how the water is dealt with b4 going in the sewers and such.
i don't think it applies to us cuz then it makes no sense. people wash their cars all the time. they're all criminals? we're like kids who mow your lawn for you, instead we're going to wash your cars for you.
i suggest asking another gas station.... didn't we have a couple on our list?
i seem to recall some similar garbage from last summer. maybe it's from the same station trying to get rid of the hassle. just ask another gas station. i wouldn't cancel the whole car washing thing just yet guys.

meh...i guess i suck at asking? As stated before I'm not really sure! and still.... I have no idea what that was about!I called 2 gas stations....i think the Cummer one...and Steeles one...can't remember. Just those two. Ask one of the execs for the numbers and phone them again. ~sorry for the misinformation~ ...hmm...now that I think about it...the managers weren't in at the time and the employee just answered...and shut me down?
