... May I...? Velata: "Wayward, I thought I told you not to follow me!!! Look at this mess! What the Hell am I supposed to do with all these leftover bits and pieces? Don't you know blood is Hell to clean up?!" Wayward: "Heh heh heh... All hail the ram!" Neighbours' consensus: "We're calling the police!" Great... now I have to deal with the police. They won't be too happy to see this after what happened in Montreal recently (see Vampire de Viger, today's - or was it yesterday? - newspaper...).

I was a STP fan long before I learned about GNR, so I had no prejudice against weiland like some other older hardcore gnr fans may have. I really like weiland though for the record axl's a better singer for sure! weiland sings a low range just absolutely fabulous! (really just think of any stp song - wicked garden....) but can you think of a song where he goes just a bit high (normal axl range) and doesn't do that raspy strained voice (that sounds sexy mind you!)? axl just does high and low awesome - (the three ranges in locomotive) and I like the "sound" (timbre/colour whatever) of it better. hits me deep. I think Velvet Revolver has nice rockers but is nothing special!! (and I hate fall to pieces... what a crappy ballad) I love slash to death but yeah...it's actually kind of ... BORING! and I wanted to love velvet revolver a lot. I was playing contraband at work and it got voted down in the middle.... not that you should care what my coworkers think - they also hate zeppelin!!
WHAT'S STUFF BY DUFF? duff rocks.

... May I...? To Genna: Thanks! Thanks a million!! Also, to answer your query: Hillary Duff, the new speaksperson for the pre-teen female population, has launched a series of accessories and a clothing line with the behemoth Wal-Mart called, aptly, "Stuff by Duff." That's not a degratory term, by no means. Merely a merchandising line. I'm personally not too fond of Duff, and those of her ilk. But - hey - to each their own, right?

Greetings:
I feel bad for those youngsters who blindly rave for icons such as hilary Duff. I am sure she is a nice person. I will even venture to say that she is a nice girl. But all this craze over her and her ilk?
Thre is so much talent out there, so much more to music and art than just these people. Thank goodness the people of CP have the mind to go else where than mainstream to pick up their musical cravings.
All hail the Ram, Wayward,

velata: lemme know what you think. ahhhh when I said duff rocks I was referring to duff mcKagan of the previous incarnation of GNR/VR since that was what we were talking about.... but in general we've gotten off topic.... but for the music video "inspired by..." how many of you were thinking of the music rather than the video (<-- the original intention)

... May I...! To Genna: They sound great! Sounds like the perfectionist hasn't been sitting idle. Too bad the quality on one of them wasn't too good. And, once again, for your query: Since the question asked for "music video" I thought it was only appropriate to think both on the video and the music. Probably as a coincidence, a few of the musicians that I liked also produced lavish theatrical musical videos. The list was narrowed down very quickly. I narrowed it down to 1. Meatloaf's " I would do anything for love", 2. G 'n' R's "November Rain", and 3. Malice Mizer's "Illuminati" (the singer is featured on the banner in this issue's magazine, dressed for this specific single. I could only gape at the coincidence... ) Illuminati was kicked out very quickly, because of its very controversial contents (to put it very mildly). I loved November Rain, but couldn't think of what to do with the video, exactly. So I worked with Meatloaf. Hope this answered your question. Duff McKeagan is great... Hilary Duff perhaps a lot less. Too bad the "Stuff by Duff" didn't come from McKeagan...

for the blues? yeah the sound was pretty screwy... I actually like the blues more than their older ballads which ... can sometimes be ... too dramatic and overdone. don't get me wrong I know that estranged and november rain are absolutely doubtlessly CLASSICS but the blues sounds more mature... from what I can hear anyway. I can't wait for axl to come back with studio stuff and "kick [me] in the mind!"
Of the three videos you mentioned I've only actually seen the meatloaf. but I can tell that you like big-budget videos.. lol.
duff is fabulous so long as he doesn't sing. (that goes for her as well!)
yesterday I was studying and absolutely wired on caffeine but I couldn't concentrate for the life of me.... but like usual was listening to the radio ... scorpian's rock you like a hurricane come on and I got really pumped up for studying... one of my guilty pleasures: hair metal (bon jovi still sucks ass).
you've probably seen my axl/slash drawings already but there's an example of art inspired by music... but I wasn't listening to anything when I drew then.... hmm... weird.

... May I...? I liked Madagascar a bit more, and it's not just because of the better recording. I can't wait for the album version of this song to come out! Wait a sec... you haven't see "November Rain"? Ah... you don't know what you're missing. I have a copy of the video on my computer (actually, I have all three that I mentioned). Next time I catch you on-line, I can send it over. You're absolutely right... I like my music videos like short-cut films. Michael Jackson's Thriller was peobably one of the greatest ever made (although, Jackson himself is perhaps less so). Too bad classic rock don't have a lot of these lavish videos. I love Bon Jovi too; but not his videos. Some of the more recent bands have some pretty interesting videos. I think you mentioned My Chemical Romance in another thread. Their "Helena" was great. Too bad it was released long after the deadline for that issue. I saw the sketchbook covers that you did, yes (however, I didn't get to see the Axl X Slash commission you talked about...). They looked pretty good... good enough that I almost thought you were listening to them. I've got to admit though, I am personally against slash fanfiction and fanart, especially if the characters/people aren't overtly gay/bisexual. That... just seem wrong... somehow... Especially if you know they can't stand each other's presence in real life.... ;D

girl - I'm so glad I hooked you on newgnr. I will send you chinese democracy (the song not the album haha yeah right... ) promptly. hang on tight tho you know my situation. (amit: have I ever sent it to you? I know I sent you maddie and the blues....i'm not sure about cd... still have mcr for you!!) madagascar was like the third gnr song I've heard if you'll believe that and fell in love immediately. so that's why I know I like their new stuff and isn't just into it cuz I loved appetite or whatever.
helena's an amazing video - the new one about war is kinda bloated though... like bon jovi's have a nice day is bloated. please give me a break - you like him? him or his music? ....well I've been told his older stuff is a lot better than "it's my life" and this new song... i just haven't heard any of it. his NEw stuff anyway IS bubblegum pop mascarading as rock. in the new vid, the guitarist had a sick double neck guitar. but then you go hmm... does he actually need it? oh yeah no he doesn't. just like avril and her guitar.... riiite....
plz send me nov rain... how big is it? only gnr vids ive seen: jungle, sweet child, patience. I know i suck but they just don't play good music on the music stations anymore and I wasn't a fan when I was 5 yrs old. do you have estranged too? I've heard about the infamous dolphin scene.....
yes axl and slash beautiful men BUUUT I was in convulsions over that fanart i did. ask liz - it stressed me out like nothing else. it was horrid. I totally agree with you... it's just wrong. in my defense - it didn't end up really being "slash" (HAHA I learnt the "other" meaning of that word at AN)... you couldn't even tell unless you were thinking about it already!
about vids: I like the arcade fire one with the kids bouncing around - neighbourhood #3? I'm not a big fan of their music but yeah the video graphics were simple but mindblowing and I was hoping someone would get inspired by it. just fast pace animation that plays with timing/angles and contrast using very few drab colours... great! not tooooo into big production vids, but I can tell that you are a dramatic girl so it's all very cool - axl's a dramatic guy! simple ones can be great. like nine inch nails' hurt. AMAZING VIDEO!!! if you haven't seen it - just trent singing in concert dripping with sweat hair in face and all in front of massive screen with images flashing. omfg you feel you're right there with him.

Greetings:
There are some really crazy videos out there. Though I do not understand them, I do appreciate their attempt at being unique.
On a more anime bent, I liked Linkin Park's "Breaking the Habit" video. I suspect that the same studio that did the anime part for Kill Bill vol. 1 did this video.
Some video just show the band playing in front of a crowd. That is not very creative is it? I love Meatloaf, but his older videos were horrid, like "Two out of Three ain't bad." It was a great song. It was also a bad video.
I did like videos that take different spins on the same "band in front of rabid crowd" theme. For example, Evanescence's "Going Under."
Some of my favourite videos.... Mmmm... long list. Meatloaf is one...Guns and Roses' "November Rain"... Michael Jackson's "Thriller" and "Smooth Criminal"...
Oh yes, there is a tie between "After all" by Delirium ft. Jael and "The most beautiful song." By Lunik - due to the sheer number of appearances by Jael of Lunik.
All hail the Ram, Advent Childhe,

NIN is one of THE most creative and brilliant bands of the 90's so without a doubt wasn't due to trent reznor's "lack of creativity". Mind you I absolutely hate "bands at show" vids - (uh... bon jovi lay your hands on me... lol i don't mean to pick on the guy...) unless the band has a special onstage energy (billy talent's song about xgirlfrend) but you really have to see that hurt video to understand the INTENSITY of JUST trent singing that song. it's beautifully shot and completely intentional that it was so simple. honestly sometimes when the song seems emotionally so personal to the singer, this kind of vid is best. It conveys everything it needs to and compliments the song perfectly <-- and that's the most important point of all. The fall to pieces video leaves you kinda.... eyerolling.......... the song wasn't that great and the video confirmed it... even though scott weiland tried to shove how personal the song was in your face soo much... it fails!! only thing I got from it is that duff is hott!! Not a massive linkin park fan (saw hilarious clip of linkin park trying to play the sweet child riff and fucking it up hahahaha you suck at guitar get over it) - buuut that is one brilliant video I 100% agree... I think I talked about it in previous thread so I'll leave it at that. god I have to see november rain video...even if it's over-the-top i just want the eye-candy!!!!

www.fobiopatel.com/dongles/movies/ozone.swfIt's the original music video for the Numa Numa song. It's pretty gay (actually it's REALLY gay*) but I love the cartoon -> real people transitions and the music is catchy... * - still not as gay as the Yatta video if you've seen it...

... May I...? To Pocket: You're right... the music is very catchy, and the video belongs to the all-time Cheese Hall of Fame. Sadly, this reminds me of how badly a lot of music videos are done these days. To Genna: Thanks for "Chinese Democracy"! I'll listen to it soon (I'm presently hooked on the soundtrack of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children... great stuff... ;D) I love Jon Bon Jovi's music, and respect him as a person; his videos perhaps less so. His older music can be and should be considered as Classic Rock. They sound great (and quite different from these new songs). You should try it sometimes. If they're not readily available, I think I might be able to help you out, as I have a few of the older ones lying around (they tend to be ballads, though). Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails... there are only two types of NIN videos: live footage with electricity arcing out of the screen, or a series of dark images without a coherent story. I prefer the latter ones on a better day, and vice versa. There aren't too many NIN videos out there, isn't it? I haven't seen one in ages! One thing, I think, that we need to keep in mind is that not all musicians are actors/actresses, and we certainly can't ask them to be both. Therefore, the safest bet for a lot of artists is to use live footage for their music videos. Lack of creativity? Maybe. But it's still better than a sure disaster. I guess, we can forgive the musicians of not being the greatest actors/actresses. There are ways to get out of this trend, however. Linkin' Park and Gorillaz have animated videos, Chantal Kreviezuk and Sting have other people acting for them for the majority of their videos. ... or, you can hire professional, recognisable actor/actresses to appear in the videos. At the end of the road... pray that the writer has a good script and a goood grasp on the video and try your darnest best to act. These are all fine, and some good results have come from them. It's the Posers that get on my nerves. I will not name them in the sake of politeness and diplomacy. But there are quite a few of them out there... and it's distressing...

Greetings,
I no longer know what they mean by "posers" nowadays. Definitions please!
it is strange how there are somany bands passing and going before our eyes. They make it big with one song and then they dissappear. Has anyone ever heard of the group called Jurassic Five?
I guess the definition of posers would be people who kinda make it big without real talent. For the good ol'days, this is not a huge phenomenon. Groups like White Snake , Van Halen's band (donno if they have a real name), and Kiss are great musician despite their obviously amoralistic behaviours (grin). But at the end of the day, they are good musicians.
With people like The Game, Lloyd Banks, O-Town, etc... take away the entourage and the blitzy flahes of media, and what are they? Back to the same old tree at Queens Park looking for spare change. Just like a certain biochemist that you might know (grin).
All Hail the Ram, Advent Childhe,
